Lyft Sexual Assault Lawyer Laurel Simes on NPR All Things Considered

NPR’s All Things Considered talked with the female-led law firm of Levin Simes regarding their work helping dozens of survivors of sexual assault by Lyft drivers. Levin Simes filed multiple lawsuits alleging Lyft drivers raped, kidnapped, or assaulted passengers, and Lyft has not taken action to lessen or prevent the risk of sexual assault.

Lyft Failed to Prevent Sexual Assault

The complaint filed by Levin Simes against Lyft alleges Lyft was grossly inadequate in protecting passengers from sexual assault. Lyft failed to implement multiple common sense safety procedures, instead focusing solely on growth. A partial summary of allegations in the complaint:

LYFT’s response to this sexual predator crisis amongst LYFT drivers has been appallingly inadequate. LYFT continues to hire drivers without performing adequate background checks. LYFT continues to allow culpable drivers to keep driving for LYFT. And, perhaps most importantly, LYFT has failed to adopt and implement reasonable driver monitoring procedures designed to protect the safety of its passengers.

Lyft Assault Lawsuit

NPR: “Lyft now faces a flood of lawsuits that accuse the company of failing to stop sexual assault and rape by its drivers”.

One woman, a resident of Louisiana, told NPR’s All Things Considered that after spending an evening out drinking with a friend in New Orleans, she took a Lyft thinking it was safe.  Instead of taking her straight home, however, the Lyft driver drove her to his home where he raped and sodomized her.

The attorneys of Levin Simes have heard from hundreds of sexual assault rideshare survivors across the United States and continue to receive multiple calls each day. “Right now, we have more than 100 filed or pending cases. We’re getting new cases every day,” said partner Laurel Simes.

National Leaders in Rideshare Assault Lawsuits

In addition to NPR’s coverage, Levin Simes’ groundbreaking work has been recognized by Bloomberg, BuzzFeed, Vice, and other leading media sources after filing an initial wave of lawsuits against Lyft.

Vice News: The seven women are represented by a San Francisco law firm, Levin Simes, which has taken the lead nationally in litigating sexual assault lawsuits against Lyft and Uber.
