The fires that raged in California caused billions of dollars in damage that has resulted in tens of thousands of damage claims for businesses and residential properties, farm equipment, and vehicles.

Other recent disasters, including the devastating hurricanes that hit Florida, Texas, and Puerto Rico, have caught everyone unexpectedly. Nobody could have imagined that the country would be pummeled by forces of such ferocity. But, the truth is insurance companies are in the business of catastrophes and you pay a premium to ensure that you will have the means to recover your losses and rebuild your home or business after disaster strikes.

When insurance companies get hit with disaster claims they often try to buy time by unfairly denying, unnecessarily delaying, and short-changing policyholders.

You have rights under the law, including the right to be treated fairly and the right to be paid fairly for your legitimate damage claims. Insurance companies know you have these rights, but they also know that if they make it hard enough for you, you may settle for a lower payout, or give up all together.

Disaster law is what we do, and we know the games these companies play. We don’t let them get away with it and neither should you. Call us today and get the insurance payouts you paid for. For decades, we have fought for the rights of policyholders who are taken advance of by insurance companies and we stand ready to fight for you now. Don’t let your insurance company get away with unfair denying, delaying, or low-balling your wildfire damage claims.

While the causes of wildfires are being investigated, some common features were found at all four locations, including nearby power lines. At two of the locations, downed telecommunications, power lines, and tree branches were cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape. The California Public Utilities Commission is investigating whether downed power lines played a role in the ignition of the wildfires, and has requested that all evidence related to the wildfires be preserved by PG&E.

If PG&E is liable for the deadly wildfires, they could potentially be liable for up to $6 billion in damages. The company said it has about $800 million in liability insurance for potential losses connected with the wildfires. This isn’t the first time the investor-owned energy utility has faced such allegations.

PG&E has a history of failing to provide proper maintenance that can help protect against these types of catastrophic disasters. In fact, it has only been months since PG&E was fined $8.3 million by the state for failing to maintain power lines that started the Amador County “Butte Fire” in 2015. That fire burned 71,000 acres and claimed two lives.

Whether or not PG&E is responsible for the fires, you need to be compensated for losses now. Your first step to recovery is filing a wildfire damage claim with your insurance. If you need help filing your claim, contact us, we will ensure your claims and all required documentation are submitted properly and that your insurance provider does not take advantage of you during the recovery process.
