Eight Teens Sent To Hospital After Vaping
The Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin drafted a press release after treating eight different teens in a single month for vaping lung injuries. The State of Wisconsin is now investigating the illnesses after learning a single hospital treated 8 children in July alone. There is rising concern that an epidemic of underage vaping is occurring.
Does Vaping Injury Teen Lungs?
The symptoms experienced by the hospitalized teenagers included chest pain, cough, fatigue, shortness of breath and weight loss. In some cases the hospital had to assist the teenage vapers with breathing.
The children are improving with treatment, however the long term risks of vaping is not known. Vaping risks may include cardiovascular effects from nicotine and other chemicals causing heart attacks and strokes, to pulmonary effects such as chronic pulmonary disorder (COPD) or other types of permanent lung damage.
The Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin’s chief medical officer, Michael Gutzeit, said: “The popularity of vaping is obviously skyrocketing among our kids and its dangers are still relatively unknown. We don’t have a lot of information about the long-term effects or even the short-term effects.”
Despite many selling these devices as “safer”, the U.S. government estimates two-thirds of deaths from cigarettes are not from cancer, but cardiovascular, pulmonary and other effects of nicotine and smoking. Recent studies have shown that similar irritation, inflammation, and hardening of arteries could be occurring with vaping, and these are the underlying contributors of a majority of smoker deaths and disease.
JUUL Addiction Lawsuit
Levin Simes Abrams is investigating cases of underage vapers who started using JUUL devices, after JUUL Labs pushed sales through illegal advertising to minors.
JUUL Labs has reportedly used social media influencers and product giveaways to get younger and underage Americans using JUUL. JUUL pods contain a very high nicotine concentration that can lead to severe nicotine addiction.
